Photoprotective Technologies, Inc. (PPT) is a San Antonio-based company that is developing a technology of photoprotection using melanin as a paradigm. It develops patents and new technology relating to photoprotection and licenses this technology in the form of lenses and filers. It manufactures melanin and sells it to companies that make sun lenses that also pay PPT royalties for each lens sold.

PPT has developed a broad expertise with melanin -  in its scientific publications relating to melanin structure and also its patents.  However,  PPT’s  primary agenda is photoprotection and not melanin.  Thus,  its experience with melanin has led PPT to  new technologies – Ocular lens Pigment (OLP) and other photoprotective materials that reduce high energy visible light without losing the perception of color.  Applications are unusually broad and include sunglass lenses, intraocular lenses, contact lenses, light filters for fluorescent and LED lights – to enhance vision and protect both vision and valuable goods.
